Well, 2022 certainly had its challenges. Pandemics, looting, flooding, loadshedding (everyone’s nemesis) and political uncertainty all added to a pressure cooker of stress. Then there was work stress, social media stress (doom scrolling isn’t good for anyone) and the general frustrations of all our loved ones too, which we can’t help but take on. It compounded. It became a cascade of pressures and stressors. As humans, we are pretty resilient, (see everything listed above and shudder) but we can all agree that there has been a toll on our mental health, well-being and overall health and lifestyle. The good news is that there are things we can do to help us ‘heal’.
At Ascend Ballito – situated at the Odyssey Medical Centre above Ribumed Day Hospital – we often encounter patients whose mental health is impacting on their physical health and vice versa. Conversations and treatment options around this can be hugely beneficial in improving overall mental and physical well-being.
Being chronically fatigued and drained of energy, coupled with a poor diet, predisposes one to chronic injuries, pain, poor sleep, depression, or severe health comorbidities such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Poor lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and joint and muscle disorders. All of these conditions are associated with physical inactivity, an unhealthy diet, and stress. Physiotherapy can successfully treat and address these behaviours by providing individualised education and prescribing physical activity and exercise. It is hands on interventions to help you resolve your acute and chronic pain and injuries. In short, physiotherapists are healthcare leaders in health promotion, rehabilitation, injury prevention and wellness. And all the above brings us to this….
ABout Us
We are Sian Scheepers Williams and Robin Williams – parents to a 2 and a half year old son Zachariah.
I’m a private practice Physiotherapist with a Psychology degree specialising in treating Orthopaedic and Sports conditions and most recently women’s pelvic health. My husband is the Lead Sports Physiotherapist for an Italian Based Rugby Team. He was previously the Physiotherapist for the Sharks Super Rugby Team, which continues to hold a special place in his heart. Together we own Ascend Physiotherapy – a recovery and performance focused Manual Therapy practice that’s focused on providing care for the whole family.
The practice has extensive knowledge in treating chronic pain such as headaches, migraines, lower back pain, sciatica, a multitude of sports injuries, even adult and paeds chest therapy, which includes nebulisation and suctioning to help our little babies breathe a bit better. We are a well-established practice that has been located in Salt Rock for the past 6 years. We recently relocated the practice to Ballito in the Odyssey Medical Centre and work closely within a multi-disciplinary team of Physios, Doctors, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Chiros and Psychologists.
