ASTHMA

Our asthma awareness and education program shows asthma sufferers the value of physical coping skills, as knowing how to breathe properly and efficiently will enhance drug therapies and reduce stress levels. Our therapists are trained in various breathing techniques.

HYPERVENTILATION SYNDROME / DYSFUNCTION

We provide a comprehensive assessment and breathing retraining program and our goal is to alleviate symptoms and empower patients with the knowledge and techniques to manage their illness effectively.

Bronchiectasis treatment and education

We include information on bronchiectasis and provide education on how patients can manage infective exacerbations of their bronchiectasis.

Treatment for:

Chronic lung disease associated with prematurity:

Parents are taught how to treat their children at home in order to optimise secretion clearance and V/Q matching. Patients are reviewed regularly to progress home treatment according to the child’s developmental ability and progress.

Acute chest infection; pneumonia and Cystic Fibrosis:

Our physiotherapists use play and child-friendly activities to aid in the mobilisation of secretions. Breathing exercises are demonstrated using a variety of age-appropriate equipment and techniques.

Bronchiolitis:

Babies with bronchiolitis are seen on the ward and as Outpatients for a thorough assessment. Parents are advised on how to keep their babies comfortable and reduce their work of breathing through positioning and handling. Advice on hydration and recognition of deterioration is explained to parents reducing the need for the hospital admission.

Respiratory Complications associated with neurological impairment:

Rehabilitation is complimented by chest physiotherapy dictated by the child’s requirements.
